Get ready to ignite your remote work success at the Running Remote 2023 Conference, taking place in the stunning city of Lisbon, Portugal on April 25-26!
Since its inception in 2018, Running Remote captivated thousands of attendees, fostering innovation and collaboration in the remote and hybrid work sphere.
If you’re planning to join this year’s exhilarating experience, we’ve got some insider tips to help you maximize your time and reap the benefits of this groundbreaking conference!
We’ll be covering the following topics:
- Knowing your ONE most important goal
- Pre-event networking tips and opportunities
- Finding ways to be valuable to others
- Extra best practices and recommendations
- More details about the Running Remote event
1) Know Your ONE Most Important Goal
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed when you’re around hundreds of people at a conference. You might worry about making every second count – like if you don’t fill each moment with a handshake or business card exchange, then you’re wasting your time.
Forget that.
The more you stress yourself about being everywhere at once, the less you’ll take away from the experience. You’ll also lose your sense of authenticity and exhaust yourself along the way.
Instead, think about what you want your ONE main takeaway from the event to be.
- Are you looking to meet a specific type of person who can be a major resource for you?
- Are you seeking specialized knowledge that will help you manage and grow your team?
- Are you looking for helpful resources and tools for remote team management?
By knowing your main goal for the event, you are able to have better and more intentional conversations with the people you meet. So start by defining your ONE most important goal.
💡 Tip: After you’ve identified your primary goal, make sure you check our event schedule to see which events are most relevant and useful to you. We’ll have two stages (a Radical Stage and a Deep Dive Stage) running in parallel, so you can attend specific talks based on your goals.
2. Pre-event Networking Tips and Opportunities
Networking before the event is a great way to prepare yourself for success and maximize the time available.
Here are a few tips and opportunities for networking before the Running Remote conference starts.
- Leverage the Bizzabo app. This platform provides one place for all attendees to collaborate. Once you’ve filled your profile, you can view other attendees’ profiles, join chat rooms, send DMS, and more, all before the event starts.
- Attend the pre-event networking tours. You heard it right, we are setting up travel tours in Lisbon, Portugal the day before the event. Not only do you get to network early with other attendees, but you also get a magnificent tour of Lisbon too!
- Attend our welcome party. We’ll be kicking off Running Remote 2023 officially at Pestana Palace Lisboa on April 24th, the evening before the event. You can join us for drinks and network with other attendees, organizers, and some of the speakers themselves.
- Hashtag Hunt. Search for #RunningRemote or #RR2023 on social media. People will be posting about the event using these hashtags, so it’s a great chance to connect, engage, or set up meetings with people you hope to meet. If you take pictures and videos at the event, please use these hashtags on your posts too, so others can find you.
- Quality > Quantity. Remember that it’s better to make a few deeper connections than try to make acquaintances with everyone you meet. Think about your primary goal and be intentional about who you invest your time and energy with.
3. Finding Ways to be Valuable to Others
When you start by offering value, you attract others. People will naturally want to help you and connect with you in return.
Here are a few ways you can provide value and develop relationships at the Running Remote conference.
- Drop the hidden agenda. Don’t approach others just so you can pick their brains. Respect their times. Even if they’re at a more successful point in their journey, there’s always something you can offer them in return.
- Be proactive. The more you help bring others together to create meaningful connections, the more you attract people to you. Maybe you can organize a walk or lunch with a few people you meet and help everyone connect – that’s adding value.
- Leverage social media. Do you have knowledge or expertise that others might find helpful? Share it on your social media accounts. Take it a step further by featuring or tagging other attendees as a way to showcase their profiles or companies.
- Learn about others. When speaking to others, take the time to learn about their company. You may be in a position to offer referrals, make introductions, or even be a client yourself. At a minimum, people will appreciate your interest in them as no one likes to hear someone brag about themselves all the time.
4. Additional Best Practices and Recommendations
Want to take your experience to the next level and maximize your ROI from the Running Remote conference?
We recommend reviewing these additional tips and recommendations. They may sound simple, but they’re definitely useful and worth your time!
Take Advantage of Sponsor Offers. Make sure to visit the Expo Zone which has over 23 companies sponsoring the event. You might discover a valuable product or service you need. Plus, sponsors will be running exclusive deals so you could lock in a discounted rate.
Break the fear. Going up to people is difficult. You may not know what to say or it may seem like you’re bothering others. Remember that everyone is here to connect. Everyone is waiting for someone to start the conversation, so have confidence in being that person.
Connect on Social Media. If you have a good conversation with someone, make sure you connect with them on LinkedIn, Facebook, Telegram or Whatsapp. This is also a reminder to have your social profiles ready and optimized before the event.Â
Show Up Early. Arriving late isn’t just about a bad impression. It also makes it difficult to network as people are already chatting and you may feel like you’re interrupting others. Showing up early allows you to have more 1-1 chats and potentially sync up with some of the speakers too.
Follow Up. It’s easy to forget someone you meet at the event, so make it a habit to send a quick message or email after you connect. If you’re sending this email from your company email, make sure to use a DMARC verification tool to ensure your emails are authenticated and less likely to be marked as spam. You may thank them for their time, send them valuable resources, or perhaps discuss doing business together. Try to do your best at keeping up with others as that is what leads to opportunities and fruitful relationships in the future.
